About Us

Bafflegab Productions is an audio production company producing original drama.

In 2020 we’re producing a (secret) supernatural series for Audible Originals, as well as a (secret) adaptation of a well-known TV programme and a (secret) supernatural drama/documentary series, both for BBC Sounds.

This year we’ve won Gold for Best Drama Special at the New York Festivals Radio Awards for our updating of M.R. James’ The Ash Tree, and Silver for Best Drama at the ARIA Awards for another James adaptation, A View from a Hill.

For Audible Originals, we have recently produced full-cast adaptations of Peter Pan (Audible’s Christmas gift to members, starring Rupert Everett) and The Wizard of Oz (starring Jim Broadbent), as well as The Conception of Terror, a series of full-cast modern-day M.R. James ghost story adaptations (Gold New York Festivals Radio Award 2019 for Best Drama Special) and an adaptation of the ’70s horror film Blood on Satan’s Claw (shortlisted for BBC Audio Drama Awards 2019, winner of the Gold New York Festivals Radio Award 2018 for Best Drama Special).

We’ve also produced The Space Programme, a weekly drama serial for kids, for Fun Kids Radio; horror anthology Hammer Chillers; an adaptation of Clive Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart, starring Alice Lowe, Tom Meeten and Neve McIntosh; Baker’s End, a comedy drama series starring Tom Baker (finalist in the BBC Audio Drama Awards 2017, winner of the Gold New York Festivals Radio Award 2017 for Best Audiobook); tales of supernatural derring-do The Scarifyers (as heard on BBC Radio 4 Extra); and The Brenda and Effie Mysteries (winner of the Gold New York Festivals Radio Award 2015 for Best Audiobook).

Bafflegab has also released Peter Cushing’s readings of his own autobiography and Sherlock Holmes stories, and Vince Cosmos: Glam Rock Detective, starring Julian Rhind-Tutt.

The company was established in 2006 by network radio producer Simon Barnard. Simon has produced documentaries for BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 1; music shows for BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6Music; and won three Sony Awards, including Gold in 2005 for the John Peel tribute documentary Teenage Dreams So Hard to Beat.
